Richard is Rix & Kay’s Managing Partner and a specialist commercial property lawyer based in Kent. He is a member of the Leadership Team responsible for the continued growth of the firm.

With over 25 years experience in commercial property in Ashford, Sevenoaks and throughout the South East, he works with some of the firm’s most important clients, helping them to manage their commercial property interests to deliver both sustainable revenue streams and a sound base for successful business operations.

He has also developed a strong and influential network of other professionals in the region and has a reputation of bringing project teams together that can deliver a seamless service to his clients.

Experience and approach

Richard supports his clients across a wide range of land and property related matters.  As a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association, he has a detailed understanding of the rural property sector and the particular needs and issues that are often presented to those who are managing land development projects, farms and agricultural property, as well industrial and business parks.

His blend of rural business expertise and commercial know-how allows him to provide a unique service to clients who require specialist legal advice.  The result is a swift and cost effective completion of transactions, providing clear financial benefits for clients.

Richard’s work

Developing long-term strategic partnerships
Richard has acted as the trusted legal advisor to a family farming business for many years.  He recently guided the family through the acquisition of a 143 acre farm including simultaneous negotiation of a surrender of Agricultural Holdings Act tenancy and subsequently acting on the disposal of the majority of the farmland to a prospective housing developer with a leaseback on a Farm Business Tenancy.

Property portfolio management
Richard advises a property investment company in the ongoing management of a high profile business park in Maidstone, Kent that includes a diverse portfolio of both retail and industrial property.
