Ian is a Partner and member of Rix & Kay’s Will and Estate Planning Team based in Uckfield. He has many years experience advising individuals about Wills, Personal Tax, Estates and Inheritance Tax Planning. He is a member of the Society of Estate Practitioners, Solicitors for the Elderly and the Private Client Section of the Law Society.
Ian’s clients
Ian specialises in advising clients on preserving their personal wealth and how to provide for themselves and their families in the future. He advises on Wills, Trusts and the use of Inheritance Tax Planning options to ensure that individuals and their families put in place the necessary planning to secure their personal wealth over successive generations.
He is also often involved with farming families to ensure that they maximise the valuable tax reliefs available to farming businesses either by lifetime planning or subsequently after death by the use of Deeds of Variation and Will Trusts.
Experience and approach
Ian has considerable experience in Trusts and Estate Planning and the mitigation of Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. He also advises on the creation and administration of trusts and related tax issues.
He acts as an executor for a considerable number of clients and has the experience and expertise to resolve the often difficult personal legal and tax problems that can arise during the administration of Estates.
He is regularly appointed as an independent expert administrator of estates by the Court or by other Solicitors where there is a dispute concerning the administration of an Estate and independent expert administration of the Estate is required.

Ian’s work
Appointed by the Court as an independent administrator of an estate where the initial executor was found by the Court to be unfit to fulfil his role as executor;
Achieved considerable inheritance tax savings for a client with respect to the administration of an estate where the commercial costs of care of the deceased was agreed by The Revenue as a deduction against inheritance tax;
Established and agreed with The Revenue a retrospective post death normal expenditure out of income claim concerning a farm business which resulted in a large saving of inheritance tax to the estate.
