Stacey White, England Rugby League squad member gives Rix & Kay exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ coverage

20th November 2017

As proud sponsors of Stacey White, England Rugby League squad member, we’ve been keeping a keen eye on the team’s performance over the past few days.  England have had mixed fortunes in Round 1 & 2 of the Rugby League World Cup, winning their first match against Papua New Guinea then losing to Australia on 19th November without scoring a single point.  Before the action started Stacey gave us an exclusive insight to the team’s busy lead up to the first match.

It’s been a whirlwind experience since my first blog. Straight onto the hamster’s wheel, and into non stop action. I find it difficult to describe the numerous emotions that go through your head being part of something like the World Cup, but most are of excitement!

My journey started as it always does, sat in the car for 5 hours travelling to Manchester Airport! There we met up as a squad. This was followed with a team meal and an inspirational talk from Sir Kevin Sinfield. The talk truly put into perspective what we had achieved already and the task we had ahead of us to come. The flight was comfortable but long! We obviously enjoyed it every time we were fed and laughing at the snorers in the group.

Upon arrival in Sydney we were straight in to training at Sydney Academy for Sport and Recreation. After one night at that location we transferred to The Olympic Park in Sydney. The sporting facilities and provision available there are out of this world. Day 2 saw more training, team meetings, physio appointments etc. Day 3 was the highlight of the trip so far. Being part of the WRLWC 2017 launch will be something I treasure. Developments for women’s sport especially, rugby league are revolutionary in Australia. We had presentations from various important supporters who are so passionate about the cause. This World Cup and all that take part in it will hopefully be a legacy for those in years to come. We were then let loose for free time in Sydney! Today we hit training and then have the reality of awaiting selection for the PNG game tomorrow.”

England’s next match is on 22nd November.
