A team from Rix & Kay’s Sevenoaks office is sleeping rough for The Street Soccer Foundation

13th June 2018

Sara Carpenter, Partner, Head of Corporate & Commercial

Rix and Kay are proud to be supporting The Street Soccer Foundation in their first ever sleep out for the Kent business community at Gillingham’s FC stadium.  The event on the 30th June brings together the businesses to raise funds and create awareness of the realities that young homeless people face.  Keith Mabbut, Founder and CEO of the The Street Soccer Foundation states “Statistically, 1 in 3 homeless young people will attempt suicide in our Country and up to half of all homeless young people have no qualifications … I’m asking all business leaders, across Kent in particular, to show their leadership and spirit to inspire others … and experience a night at Priestfield that will make a real difference to young people in the local community.”

The Street Soccer Foundation is a charitable non-profit organisation which provides a personal development programme for vulnerable and homeless young people.  Its nationally acclaimed Street Soccer Academy helps participants progress into work, education or further training.  Jodie Coombes (20) of Tonbridge was homeless and had been sleeping rough on and off for 2 years after falling out with her parents.  She graduated from the Street Soccer Academy course and went on to captain England at the Homeless World Cup.  She is now an Ambassador for the Foundation and is progressing into coaching to help inspire more young females:  “Projects like Street Soccer are so important.  They really help people in situations like I found myself.  It really helps to give people a chance to show what they can do.  They do an amazing job and I can’t thank them enough.”  Jodie Coombes

Sara Carpenter, Head of Corporate and Commercial, explains “When I heard about The Street Soccer Foundation’s work I didn’t hesitate to offer our support.  We’re very keen to encourage our friends in other businesses to join us on the 30th June and we’ll use our extensive professional, and client, network to further raise the profile of this invaluable programme.”
