Planning law expert Oliver Bussell specialises in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious planning and especially all aspects of Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. Oliver advises in negotiations with local authorities both pre-grant and at appeal on bilateral agreements as well as unilateral undertakings – a good understanding of the law in this area can make a huge difference to the success of applications. He can also advise on restructuring of existing planning obligations by deed of variation as well as the use of appeal mechanisms where a local planning authority refuses to vary.

Oliver’s other planning law work includes:

  • compliance reviews of planning applications
  • advice on appeal prospects
  • instructing counsel and assembling project teams at appeal
  • opposing designations of land as Ancient Monument and Asset of Community Value
  • acting for objectors in resisting proposals

He also advises clients on planning enforcement issues including routes and prospects of appeal and responses and challenges to statutory notices.
