15th April 2025

Three of Rix & Kay’s lawyers have recently been appointed into formal Law Society posts.

Angela Arnold, Partner and Head of the firm’s Residential Property Team has been made Vice-President of the Sussex Law Society. Founded in 1860 the Society represents solicitors practicing in central Sussex and works to protect the character, status, rights and interests of its members and of the profession of solicitors generally.

Angela’s role sees her elected as the first woman of Jamaican heritage to take up the post. Commenting on her appointment Angela said,

“I’m a strong advocate and supporter of all forms of equal opportunities. My contribution in this regard is to ensure I mentor and support all individuals, irrespective of their background, in gaining access to opportunities and realising their potential. My role as Vice President of the Sussex Law Society is another forum that will allow me to do that. I’ve always wanted to leave a legacy and inspire those coming into the legal profession that were underrepresented”.

In Kent, both Jordan Ismail and Jonathan Laws have been appointed as Co-Presidents of the Kent Junior Lawyers Division. Jordan, who recently qualified as a Solicitor, specialises in employment law and dispute resolution. Jonathan is a Trainee Solicitor and is due to qualify in October 2025.

With over 300 members, the Kent Junior Lawyers Division supports junior lawyers in the County and feeds into the work of the independent National Junior Law Divisions run by The Law Society.

Commenting on his appointment Jordan remarked,

“The last six months have been quite a whirlwind for me. I’ve been shortlisted for the LawNet Trainee of the Year Award, completed my training contract and become fully qualified, and appointed as Co-President of the Kent Junior Lawyers Division. More than anything, I’d like to thank Rix & Kay for supporting me every step of the way and providing the tools and mentoring to allow me to develop my career”.

Jonathan Laws, who will share the Co-Presidency with Jordan commented,

“The Kent Junior Lawyers Division provides opportunities for junior lawyers and helps them with their professional development through knowledge-sharing and networking. I’m looking forward to working with Jordan and the Division’s other members to ensure we can support one-another to further enhance our careers and technical legal know-how”.

As Co-Presidents, Jordan and Jonathan will be responsible for leading the committee and deciding the strategic direction of the Division. They will also look to generate revenue streams through sponsorship opportunities, increase membership and partner with the Kent Law Society and the Kent Student Law Society at Kent University.
