Jordan Ismail

Trainee Solicitor - West Kent (Hadlow)

24th October 2022

I have been at Rix & Kay since the summer of 2022 and have just passed the two month milestone in my Residential Property Assistant role. I am based in the firms’ West Kent (Hadlow) office. I joined Rix & Kay’s Residential Property Department from another regional law firm in South-East London.

The first thing that stood out to me upon joining Rix & Kay was the supportive and friendly environment that you are welcomed into. On my first day, I was introduced to everyone in my office in person as well as my colleagues in different offices on Teams. The common theme when meeting colleagues was that everybody was only too happy to offer their help, should I need it.

Training and Induction

The training programme over my first week was comprehensive and fully prepared me for my role. I had sessions with the IT Support team, the Accounts Team, Human Resources, the office manager as well as my department. The training provided in these sessions covered everything I needed to know and made my transition into the firm smooth. It was made clear where I could get further support should I need it. I have been supervised whilst encouraged to pick up more tasks when I feel comfortable doing so. After a few weeks of training, I feel confident in my role.

On my first day, I was equipped with a work laptop and mobile allowing me to work seamlessly between home and the office. I was also welcomed with a gift bag full of treats!

A day in the life of a Residential Property Assistant

A typical day as a Residential Property Assistant for me involves supporting my solicitor colleagues by drafting contracts and transfer deeds, carrying out searches on properties, exchanging contracts or completing transactions, liaising with clients to keep them updated on their transactions and assisting with the transferring of funds between parties.

Rix & Kay are an employee-centric firm that takes a caring approach to your well-being and progression. I am in regular contact with my head of department who ensures I have all the tools I need to do a good job. Since starting, we have already had multiple team lunches in West Kent (Hadlow) and Uckfield and even a firm-wide quiz, which has been a great way to get to know my new colleagues.

I would highly recommend Rix & Kay to anyone looking to make that next step in their career.
