Legal advice for later life planning
We provide later life planning advice for individuals and their families across Brighton & Hove, Sussex and Kent. Our clients’ needs vary hugely and we always provide advice tailored for their individual needs.
Acting for Individuals in Later Life
We regularly act for elderly individuals who have little or no access to immediate family, including those who are widowed, have no children and may already be living in a care home setting.
Our dedicated team liaise with clients in a variety of ways, tailored to the needs of each person. We can speak on the telephone or send postal correspondence, or carry out video calls and liaise by email for those more tech-savvy. We also look forward to once again engaging with clients with personal face-to-face meetings as the country comes out of the pandemic. We are happy to be guided by the needs and preferences of each individual.
We can be on hand for general ongoing assistance with financial affairs, assist with a particular short term matter, such as providing support during the sale of a property, or can provide our Concierge Service for those who require support on an ad hoc basis or would like to be put in touch with our wide variety of trusted contacts, from cleaners to financial advisors to dog walkers.
We also provide help to those who simply wish to take a backseat from running their own affairs after a lifetime of doing so. Again, this service is tailored to the needs of our client, and people are welcome to have as little or as much involvement in the management of their finances as they wish.
A large part of our role is providing assistance to people living with capacity issues, due to injury or illness, who age from their fifties to well into their centenary years. In this role, we not only provide support to our client, but also to their wider support network.
Acting for Families
We do not just act for those who have no close loved ones. We act alongside families, including children and spouses on a regular basis. We can provide support to families who wish to act for loved ones themselves, or take on the reins within the firm when spouses or children are simply struggling to manage such a large undertaking. We build up fantastic working relationships with family members over what can be months or years of assisting a client, and ensure that those who wish to be involved are kept updated.
We are also able to provide help to people struggling following the bereavement of a spouse, who perhaps had always managed the family finances. With a kind and down to earth team always at hand, we have helped many clients towards confidence in managing their financial affairs and back onto their feet into a new chapter of their lives.
Powers of Attorney & Deputyships
We can assist clients under Lasting or existing Enduring Powers of Attorney, or Deputyship Orders. Due to this flexibility, we are able to help as much as the client needs us to – whether it is simply managing complex savings, whilst the client continues to competently manage their day to day spend, arranging the sale of a property on a client’s behalf, or whether it is full management of property and financial affairs on a day to day basis.
Our Later Life Team specialise in Court of Protection applications and can also advise on Trustee, Gift Applications and Statutory Wills.
Our Concierge Services
Our clients come from a variety of different backgrounds – in the past we have assisted in the management of businesses and let properties they are no longer wanting to or able to manage, dealt with financial assets from around the world, and even ensured that any pets our clients are no longer able to care for are lovingly looked after.
We have built up relationships with a number of residential, care and nursing homes across the South East, and are able to connect families or clients with professionals in the care industry should the time come to move permanently into care. Similarly, we have clients who live at home well into their later years, and we are able to help them fulfil their wishes to remain living at home for as long as possible.
Our clients are also from very different financial backgrounds. We have trusted contacts who can provide financial advice for those with complex financial affairs, and we are able to obtain specialist benefits advice, and apply for local authority funding, for those clients with more modest finances.
No person is average, and therefore no client is average. We take pride in tailoring our assistance to each client’s unique needs, and providing an exclusive service to each.
