Sheila Riches, Senior Solicitor
Catastrophic Injury Department
Sheila joined Rix & Kay in 2007 to assist Frances Pierce in setting up the specialist team. She qualified as a solicitor in 1994 having graduated from Oxford Brooks and then the College of Law in Guildford. Since qualifying she has specialised in catastrophic injury work, both personal injury and clinical negligence.
Sheila deals with all areas of clinical negligence and brain injury work. With her nursing experience in Neuro Intensive Care, her personal experience of being a relative/receiver and her legal experience over a number of years she understands how a catastrophic injury affects families especially parents, spouses/partners and children.
When acting for a client and their family Shelia uses her skills to support them throughout the legal process. Although nothing can change the past, much can be done to support the family in the short and long term. Sheila ensures that her clients recover the maximum compensation possible.
Prior to qualifying as a lawyer Sheila trained as a nurse in Ireland and went on to specialise in Neurosurgery, working in many of the London hospitals. For 10 years prior to her legal training she worked as a senior sister in the Neuro- Intensive Care Unit at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.
She has been an AvMA panel member since 1999, and is on the Headway Personal Injury Solicitor List and was actively involved in setting up the Sussex Acquired Brain Injury Forum (SABIF).
She graduated with an MSc in Medical Ethics from Imperial College, London in 2006. She is a keen rugby and tennis supporter and enjoys reading and travel.
